The Story of UHC

Pueblo's Jewish history dates began in the 1800s with Jewish settlers coming to conquer the wild west.

United Hebrew Center's story begins on July 11, 1902, with the establishment of Congregation B'nai Jacob, an Orthodox Synagogue. At the time, it included all the Jewish amenities including a Mikvah and Kosher butcher shop. The Star of David that adorns the ark is the only surviving remnant of the original B'nai Jacob Greek-style sanctuary that once stood where the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center now stands.

On September 10, 1950, the congregation moved to its current location and changed its name to United Hebrew Center. The current synagogue was established in 1958 on land donated to the congregation by Abe Pepper.
